Your Survival Pack Is Probably Too Heavy

What if your survival kit had to earn its place?

A while back I challenged myself to stop carrying unnecessary weight—not just in my gear, but on my body. After losing 16 pounds toward my goal, it was finally time to move from my everyday carry and minimalist kits back into a backpack.

There was just one problem...

My Hill People Gear Tarahumara Pack was too heavy.

In this video, I walk through every piece of gear and explain the thought process behind deciding what stays, what goes, and why. Every ounce matters, but so does capability. Sometimes cutting weight isn’t as simple as removing gear.

Along the way I also get an unexpected lesson when I’m stung by a hornet and treat it in the field using broadleaf plantain as an improvised spit poultice.

If you’ve ever wondered how to build a lighter survival kit without compromising your priorities, this video is for you.

Let me know in the comments:

Would you like to see a dedicated video on building a compact but capable wilderness first aid kit?

Thanks for watching, and as always, stay prepared.
