At this event, we were divided into teams and faced multiple challenges using real-world skills: navigation, medical response, fire building, water purification, and more.
What surprised me most?
How many people struggled with fundamental skills like:
Using a compass
Orienting a map
Understanding declination
Terrain association
Improvised medical skills
Fire and water preparation
Eventually, I ran into something I needed to work on myself: fishing.
So I headed out to the river to practice, and brought you along with me.
This video is a gut check. Not about gear… but about skills. Because no matter how much equipment you carry, the truth is simple: Skills matter more than gear.
