The Kayak Trip from Hell

Early access because Substackers always come first

A simple 8-mile river float was supposed to take just three hours. Instead, it became a 17.6-mile, 10.5-hour grind through downed trees, low water, poison ivy, fiberglass splinters, and sheer exhaustion - plus a 3.2-mile walk hauling kayaks. We only saw one other person the whole trip. This wasn’t a survival challenge - it was supposed to be fun. But real life doesn’t care about your plans.

In this video, I share what went wrong, the hard lessons learned, and why calm decision-making and preparation are the difference between a bad day and a dangerous one. Emergency waits for no man.
