Last night I took a new piece of gear into the field — something called the Bubbie. Think of it as a woobie on steroids: bigger, tougher, and far more versatile.
This isn’t a review - it’s a field test. I believe you should always know your gear’s strengths and weaknesses before you have to rely on it in an emergency. One outing won’t tell the whole story, but here’s what I learned after spending a night in the woods with temps dropping to 57°F and 98% humidity.

The Bubbie works as a blanket, sleeping bag (thanks to its zipper), hammock underquilt, ground pad, makeshift shade, or just camp comfort. Along the way I set up my hammock, brew coffee, harvest chestnuts, and share some tips that could make your next outing easier. Even my pitbull came along for the adventure.
Bottom line: I was impressed on my first outing - and I think this will shine even more when paired with a bivy or layered system.
