What's the issue with 10 mm? A G20 is light weight yet better in the wild than a .45 Auto. Even better (at shorter range), their G29. I never go hiking anywhere without my G20 in my pack or fanny pack on shorter day hikes.
You know, one of the 10 mm handguns I had was the S&W...same as the FBI had back in the day before they went with the .40 Short & Weak, only mine wouldn't fire IF the mag was out. What a total POS that was. In a mere 500 rounds it was a rattler. Gone! Never owned another S&W!
I had other 10 mm handguns that were good to great. I purchased a G20 as kind of a joke (Early 1990s), thinking there's no way it will last. Boy was I wrong! Of all of my 10 mm pistols, ONLY the Glocks have been keepers! You know, the kind of, from my cold dead hands kind of keeper!
However, it wasn't until the .40 S&W round developed sufficiently that I had found the perfect *carry* round for my 10 mm. The Corbon 135 gr. JHP. Ultra fast velocity and excellent penetration. I later read a report on that in Handgun Stopping Power II that the lighter rounds were the top rated ones. I prefer the heavier loads when out hiking.
I remember back in my LFI-1 class Masaad Ayoob asking me in front of the entire class how I cleaned it. "In the dishwasher?"

That’s precisely my point.. Most people fear them based on the FBI history. They are VERY effective for both two/four legged threats.

I agree with you on all points and Massad is the GOAT!
