On September 30 the copilot of FlyDubai 1073, Dubai to Tel Aviv, took the cockpit crash ax to his captain and put a 737 with 182 people aboard into a 16,000-foot dive. Passengers forced the door, pulled him off, tied him with earphone cables, and two off-duty pilots landed the jet in Saudi Arabia.
He had passed every checkpoint. He had the badge. Oman had already barred him from its own airline over extremist views.

A second person stepping into the cockpit. A flight attendant moves into the flight deck every time a pilot steps out. One airline is policy. Every carrier at your gate the same week is the industry admitting the threat is the crew, and you know before the press release.
A guard where the card reader was. The employee door at your airport or the contractor gate at the plant down the road now has a person checking badges instead of a beep. One site is a broken reader. Three sites in a month is a re-vetting order working down, and you know which places took it seriously.
Re-check notices going out to badge holders. Your neighbor at the airport gets an email saying his background check is being redone early. One notice is a renewal cycle. A wave across different employers in one month means a federal flag went out, and you get a month of warning.
