BLUF

The Pentagon is working to make major U.S. military bases less dependent on civilian power and supplies. Fox News reported October 25 that FORTRESS documents call for essential operations to continue for 90 days without outside support. The publicly announced program is real; the 90-day figure comes from documents reviewed by reporters, not a published directive.

Your house still depends on the same power lines, fuel deliveries and water systems. If those fail for an extended period, a generator without fuel or a well without backup power won’t solve the problem.

I break this down in tonight’s episode. Catch the full panel broadcast below.

WHAT HAPPENED AND WHY IT MATTERS

The September 30 FORTRESS announcement set out a push for military installations to generate their own power. Reporting describes microgrids, batteries and other on-base generation, alongside supplies needed to keep operating when commercial services are disrupted. The Army has also surveyed Fort Benning for planned nuclear microreactors, with the first proposed for 2028.

This is a resilience program, not proof that officials know a three-month blackout is coming. The important difference is that military planners are reducing dependencies most American households still have.
