Here is what most Americans are not doing - and need to start doing right now.

The power grid was never designed to absorb a coordinated, multi-site physical attack. FERC’s own leaked assessment confirmed years ago that destroying just nine key interconnection substations could black out the entire United States for 18 months or longer. That is not a hypothetical. That is documented. The grid spans more than 7,300 power plants, 55,000 transmission substations, and 160,000 miles of high-voltage lines - most of it unguarded, most of it accessible, and almost none of it hardened against a determined attacker.

Here is your practical baseline right now:

Know your grid dependency. Do you have any power generation of your own - solar, generator, battery backup? If the answer is no, you are 100% dependent on infrastructure that intelligence agencies have publicly flagged as a high-priority target for violent extremists with credible, specific plans.

Water before power. The moment power goes out, municipal water systems begin degrading. Have a minimum of two weeks of water stored. More is better.

Communications redundancy. Grid failure takes down cell towers within 24 to 72 hours as backup generators exhaust their fuel. Ham radio - specifically NVIS-capable HF rigs - remains the only communications method that survives a widespread grid outage. Get licensed, get on the air.

Cash on hand. Electronic payments die with the grid. Have physical cash accessible.

Fuel now, not later. Gas pumps run on electricity. Fill your vehicles and keep topped off. Store additional fuel with a proper stabilizer.

Medical supplies. Pharmacies do not operate without power. Prescription medications, first aid, and over-the-counter critical supplies should be on hand for a minimum of 30 days.

Community awareness. Know your neighbors. Coordinated local response is infinitely more effective than isolated individual survival in a grid-down event.

The anomalies are already appearing. The pattern is already there for those willing to look. The time to prepare is right now - not when the lights go out.
