BLUF MAIN TOPIC: The normalization of Christian slaughter by radical jihadis is happening in plain sight - and the world is either asleep, complicit, or too cowardly to say anything about it. Tens of thousands of believers have been killed over the past decade, with thousands more slaughtered in a single year, and the global response remains muted at best and criminal at worst. Nigeria sits at the epicenter of this ongoing massacre, where Islamist extremist militias including Boko Haram, ISWAP, and armed Fulani militants have turned entire regions into killing fields. According to Open Doors’ World Watch List 2026, of the 4,849 Christians killed worldwide for their faith during the reporting period, 3,490 were in Nigeria - more than all other nations combined. This is not random violence. It is sustained, ideologically driven, targeted persecution carried out by radical jihadi networks, normalized through media silence and political cowardice, and it demands a response from every Christian who still has a voice.

PRACTICAL TIPS | MAIN TOPIC

The slaughter of Christians in Nigeria and across the globe by radical jihadi groups is not a distant problem. It is a direct window into what ideologically motivated persecution looks like when governments fail, media looks away, and the church stays silent. Here is what you can do right now.

Get informed and stay informed. The mainstream press will not cover this with any consistency. Open Doors, International Christian Concern, Morning Star News, and persecution.org are publishing ground-level reporting that the networks ignore. Bookmark them. Subscribe to their alerts. Share their content. You cannot fight what you refuse to acknowledge.

Pressure your elected representatives. Congress has introduced resolutions condemning the persecution of Christians in Nigeria. Contact your representative and ask where they stand. Demand that the U.S. government use every available lever - sanctions, aid conditions, diplomatic pressure - to hold the Nigerian government accountable for the impunity it extends to Fulani militants, Boko Haram, and ISWAP.

Support organizations doing direct relief work on the ground. Open Doors, CSW, ICC, and Christian Solidarity International are operating in these conflict zones, providing trauma counseling, emergency aid, and material support to displaced believers. Your financial support directly funds that work.

Pray with intent and consistency. This is not a throwaway suggestion. The church in Nigeria is under sustained attack, and prayer is both our first and most powerful response. Organize your small group, your Sunday school class, your family around this issue. Make it a standing item.

Understand the ideological driver. These attacks are not farmer-herder disputes dressed up in religious language. ISWAP and Boko Haram have explicitly declared Christians as targets and stated their goal of establishing an Islamic caliphate. Fulani militant groups shout “Allahu Akbar” and “We will destroy all Christians” during attacks. This is jihad. Name it accurately.

Build your own preparedness posture. The patterns we are seeing in Nigeria - coordinated attacks on faith communities, impunity for perpetrators, government denial, and media normalization - are worth studying from a preparedness standpoint. Churches in America should be thinking about security, community resilience, and communication protocols now, not after an incident.
