The pattern emerging across Austin, New York, Michigan, and Virginia is not random violence. It is asymmetric warfare being conducted against a civilian population that has largely been conditioned to believe these threats exist only in foreign war zones. They do not.

Here is what you need to be doing right now to harden your position.

Know your surroundings at a level most Americans are not willing to operate at. Soft targets - bars, houses of worship, crowded public spaces, transit hubs - are the primary hunting grounds for both lone actors and coordinated cells. If you are in these environments, you need to be running a continuous mental threat assessment. Where are the exits. Who does not fit. What changed since you walked in.

Understand the propaganda-to-action pipeline. Online radicalization is not slow anymore. The FBI’s own data shows that individuals can move from first exposure to violent extremist material to operational planning in a matter of weeks. The platforms enabling this are encrypted and accessible on any phone. The actors consuming it are already inside this country. This is not a border problem alone - it is a radicalization problem that crosses every zip code.

Get your communication plan locked down. If multiple simultaneous attacks hit American cities, cell networks will be jammed or overloaded within minutes. Every family needs a primary and backup communication protocol that does not depend on a working cell tower. Satellite communication, ham radio, pre-arranged meeting points - these are not prepper fantasies. They are what people who have actually lived through mass casualty events wish they had prepared before it happened.

Review your medical preparedness. Coordinated attacks on soft targets produce mass casualty events. Gunshot wounds, blast injuries, and crush injuries require intervention before any ambulance arrives. Tourniquet application, wound packing, and airway management are skills every adult in your household should hold. TCCC-based civilian training is widely available and runs a single day.

Tighten your immediate area awareness. Suspicious vehicles parked near houses of worship, schools, government buildings, and crowded venues are one of the most consistent pre-attack indicators in the historical record. Report what you see. The FBI and DHS tip lines exist for this reason and they are actively working cases right now.
