We are living in the most dangerous domestic threat environment since the original 9/11 attacks, and the intelligence community knows it. The Soufan Center’s 2026 terrorism forecast warns that this year marks the 25th anniversary of September 11 and that both foreign and domestic terror threats are converging at an alarming rate. The House Homeland Security Committee’s latest Threat Snapshot confirms that homegrown radicalization is surging, ISIS-inspired plots are being disrupted at a pace we have not seen in years, and the FBI has its hands full with threats ranging from international jihadists to far-left anti-government cells. Just weeks ago the FBI disrupted a coordinated New Year’s Eve bombing plot targeting five locations in Los Angeles, and separately stopped an ISIS-inspired knife attack in North Carolina.
An Afghan national released under Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome ambushed two National Guard members blocks from the White House. Meanwhile in India, intelligence agencies uncovered a coordinated plot targeting over 500 locations across 81 cities. The pattern is unmistakable - the next wave is not a question of if, but when. And here is the part that should terrify every freedom-loving American: when that wave hits, it will not be the federal government that steps in to save us. It will be Silicon Valley. Big Tech is already embedded deeper into national security than most people realize. The Pentagon just awarded $200 million contracts to Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and xAI for military AI deployment. Palantir is projecting over $7 billion in revenue for 2026 largely driven by government surveillance contracts. Section 702 of FISA is up for reauthorization this spring and the debate is already raging over how much more power to hand the intelligence-corporate complex. The original 9/11 gave us the Patriot Act, which shredded the Fourth Amendment. A 9/11 2.0 across 15 to 20 American cities would hand Big Tech the keys to a total surveillance state that makes the Patriot Act look like a parking ticket.
