Global Threat Environment

The global threat environment remains significant, with terrorism concentrated in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. These regions have recorded more terrorism deaths than the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) since 2018. The Islamic State (IS) has expanded its operations to 22 countries, with 71% of its activity occurring in Syria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP) has emerged as the fastest-growing terrorist group, with a 90% increase in attributed deaths.

American Threat Environment

In the United States, the threat environment is heightened due to various factors. The FBI has intensified its focus on counterterrorism threats following recent strikes and conflicts, particularly with Iran.
