BLUF MAIN TOPIC: This episode is on the likelihood that most people will die when assaulted whether it be a stand-alone incident, being caught up in a riot or being on the X during terrorist attack. That applies whether they have a gun, or not. The majority of Americans have no scenario training or stress inoculation which makes them extremely vulnerable to going into condition black or not thinking clear enough to sufficiently protect themselves and their families.

The hard truth nobody wants to hear is that your concealed carry permit and range time don’t mean jack when violence erupts in your face. We’ve created a generation of armed Americans who think buying a Glock and shooting paper targets once a month makes them prepared for real violence. It doesn’t. When that sudden assault happens - whether it’s a carjacking, a street robbery, getting caught in civil unrest, or God forbid being on the X during a coordinated attack - your body is going to do things you never trained it to handle. Your fine motor skills vanish. Your vision tunnels. Your cognitive ability crashes. This is condition black, and without stress inoculation training, that’s exactly where most armed Americans end up. Dead or traumatized, despite having a weapon on their hip. The physiological response to life-threatening stress is violent and unforgiving. Your sympathetic nervous system floods your body with adrenaline, your heart rate spikes past 175 beats per minute, and suddenly that perfect grip and sight picture you practiced at the range might as well have been fiction. This isn’t pessimism - it’s biology, and it’s why scenario-based training under stress separates survivors from statistics.

PRACTICAL TIPS | MAIN TOPIC

Real preparation for violence starts with acknowledging that static range practice is foundational but insufficient. You need force-on-force training with simunitions or airsoft where another human being is actively trying to hurt you. Your body needs to experience elevated heart rate, tunnel vision, and auditory exclusion in a controlled environment so these responses don’t paralyze you when it matters. Find reputable instructors who run scenario-based training - not just shooting drills, but decision-making under ambiguity and stress. Practice your draw from concealment while moving, while protecting family members, while your heart is pounding from physical exertion.
