BLUF MAIN TOPIC: Foreign wars do not stay contained overseas - they follow us home. That is not a talking point, it is the threat environment we are living in right now. Tonight on EP728, we are breaking down exactly how global conflict bleeds into domestic security. The mechanism is not new but it is accelerating - sleeper networks embedded inside American cities, lone actors lit up by foreign extremist propaganda pipelines, and asymmetric warfare doctrines that deliberately skip military targets and go straight for civilians. Your church, your mall, your kids’ school, your commute - those are the targets. DNI Tulsi Gabbard’s 2026 Annual Threat Assessment confirms it. The enemy cannot beat us on a battlefield, so they are bringing the battle to you. We break down what this means and what you can do about it.

PRACTICAL TIPS | MAIN TOPIC

The threat picture is no longer theoretical and the recent wave of domestic incidents makes that undeniable. On March 1st, the same day U.S. and Israeli forces launched strikes on Iran, a naturalized U.S. citizen opened fire at a bar in Austin, Texas, killing two people and wounding 14 others. Investigators discovered Iranian regime paraphernalia inside his apartment. That same week, a Lebanese-born U.S. citizen drove a truck into a Michigan synagogue. A separate attacker shouted religious declarations before killing an Army officer at Old Dominion University. These are not isolated random events - they are the early indicators of an asymmetric campaign targeting soft civilian spaces where Americans gather without protection.

DNI Gabbard’s 2026 Threat Assessment, released March 18th, confirms that law enforcement disrupted at least 15 U.S.-based Islamist terrorist plotters in 2025 alone. Roughly half had active online contact with foreign terrorist organizations. The Institute for Strategic Dialogue reports that ISIS’s capacity for complex organized attacks inside the U.S. remains limited - so they shifted their model to digital radicalization and lone actor enabling. That model is working. In 2025, ISIS-linked supporters carried out two successful attacks on U.S. soil - the first successful attacks in eight years. Eight of eleven actors across seven incidents were teenagers.

The Council on Foreign Relations put it plainly - the longer the Iran war continues, the greater the incentive for Iran to apply every form of asymmetric warfare available, including activating sleeper agents, inspiring lone actors, hitting cyber infrastructure, and targeting physical soft targets inside America. Hezbollah surveillance operations have already been documented in New York, Boston, Texas, and Charlotte. The Lynnwood Times reported that the National Counterterrorism Center identified approximately 18,000 known and suspected terrorists who entered the country under the Biden administration’s open border policy.

Here is what you do right now. Know what a soft target is - malls, grocery stores, churches, transit hubs, outdoor markets, sporting events, schools. Any place where civilians gather in numbers with limited security and open access is a soft target. Start running a quick pre-entry threat assessment before you walk into any crowded space. Thirty seconds. Identify exits. Locate hard cover. Note anything that does not belong. Build that habit until it is automatic. Communicate a documented emergency action plan with every adult and older teen in your household. Rally point, bug-out route, communication protocol when cell towers are overwhelmed. Do not wait until something happens in your city to start having these conversations.
