SITREP: Democrats’ Misguided Crusade to Protect an MS-13 Gang Member: A Christian Perspective EP466
Live at 700pm ET this evening
As Christians, we are called to uphold justice, protect the vulnerable, and discern right from wrong with wisdom rooted in biblical truth. The recent actions of Democrat leaders, particularly Senator Chris Van Hollen, in their fervent push to shield Kilmar Ábrego García - an illegal immigrant and confirmed MS-13 gang member - from deportation raise serious moral concerns. This is not a matter of compassion for the downtrodden but a troubling misalignment of priorities that endangers communities and defies godly principles of accountability.

García, an El Salvadoran citizen who entered the U.S. illegally, was identified by an immigration court in 2019 as a member of MS-13, a gang designated as a terrorist organization known for its brutality. His knuckle tattoos, spell out “MS-13” through symbols like a marijuana leaf, smiley face, cross, and skull, further confirm his allegiance to this violent group. Despite these facts, Senator Van Hollen traveled to El Salvador - on taxpayer funds - to meet García and falsely claimed there is “no evidence” tying him to MS-13, a statement contradicted by Department of Homeland Security records. Such denial of truth undermines the integrity Scripture demands (Proverbs 12:22).
El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, who has taken a hard stance against gang violence, refused to extradite García, ejected from the U.S. after an “administrative error” by the Trump administration, which sent him to El Salvador’s CECOT mega-prison. Bukele called García a “wife-beating MS-13 member” and vowed to keep him detained, stating he would not “smuggle a terrorist” back to the U.S. Yet, Democrats, led by Van Hollen, have pushed to bring García back, arguing for his due process despite his documented ties to a group that sows fear and destruction.
From a Christian perspective, compassion is a cornerstone of faith, but it must be balanced with justice. Psalm 89:14 declares, “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; love and faithfulness go before You.” Protecting the innocent and holding the guilty accountable are not mutually exclusive - they are complementary. MS-13’s reign of terror, marked by murder, trafficking, and abuse, is antithetical to the sanctity of life God cherishes. By advocating for García’s return, Democrats risk prioritizing a dangerous individual over the safety of American families, a choice that echoes the warning in Isaiah 5:20: “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.”
Border Czar Tom Homan, a vocal critic, called Van Hollen’s trip a “clown show,” accusing him of using public funds to defend a “public safety threat.” Homan’s firsthand accounts of gang violence in America underscore the real-world consequences of such policies. Christians must wrestle with the reality that unchecked mercy toward the unrepentant can enable harm, contradicting the call to protect the weak (Psalm 82:3-4). When a Maryland mother was murdered by an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, Van Hollen offered a brief statement blaming Republicans and moved on, raising questions about whose lives he truly values.
The outcry on platforms like X reflects a broader frustration: many see Democrats’ actions as betraying citizens for the sake of political posturing. Some have called Van Hollen “despicable” for his stance, while others point to the Supreme Court’s swift intervention to block deportations of other alleged gang members, contrasting this with delayed justice for American citizens in other cases. There are even calls to investigate Democrats for potential violations like the Logan Act, suggesting their actions border on unauthorized foreign dealings.
Scripture urges us to pray for leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-2) but also to hold them accountable when they stray from justice. The Democrat Party’s campaign to protect García, a man tied to a gang that thrives on chaos, risks elevating ideology over righteousness. As Christians, we must advocate for policies that reflect God’s heart: mercy for the repentant, protection for the innocent, and consequences for those who choose evil. Anything less dishonors the One who calls us to be salt and light in a broken world (Matthew 5:13-16).
