Start treating energy security as a personal responsibility, not a government promise. First priority is establishing backup power generation at your home - whether that’s propane generators, solar arrays with battery storage, or both. Calculate your minimum power requirements for survival (refrigeration, heating/cooling, communications, medical equipment) and build from there. Store at least 30 days of fuel for your generators in proper containers with stabilizers, and understand that gasoline has a shelf life. Natural gas lines can be cut, so don’t assume your home’s gas supply will remain functional during coordinated infrastructure attacks.

Water systems require electricity to pump and treat, so your water storage and filtration systems become critical when the grid fails. Keep minimum 90 days of food storage that doesn’t require refrigeration or complex cooking - freeze-dried, canned goods, rice, beans, and other staples.
