Your family cannot depend on federal response when twenty cities are burning simultaneously. Period. You need a thirty day sustainability plan that assumes no outside help is coming. Start with water - one gallon per person per day minimum, but realistically you want two gallons when you factor in sanitation and cooking. Store what you can and have filtration backup for local sources.
Communications will fail. Cell towers will be overwhelmed or targeted. Get your amateur radio license now and invest in a quality HF rig. Join local nets and practice before you need it. Your family needs a rally point and a communication plan that does not rely on infrastructure.
Harden your home security. In a mass casualty event, law enforcement will be stretched beyond capacity. You are your own first responder. Ensure your CCW training is current, your home defense plan is rehearsed, and your family knows the protocols.
Build your local network now. Know your neighbors. Identify who has medical training, mechanical skills, communications capability. A prepared community survives what isolated individuals cannot. Your church should be the hub of this network - get your pastor thinking about the building as a resilience center, not just a Sunday gathering place.
Finally, get your financial house in order. Keep cash on hand. Diversify holdings. When systems fail, digital access disappears. The prepared man has options the dependent man does not.
