FBI data confirms over 1,700 active domestic terrorism investigations currently underway inside the United States, and that number doesn’t account for what hasn’t been detected yet. The cases keep stacking up. A Maryland man - Michael Sam Teekaye Jr., 22 - just pleaded guilty on January 30th to attempting to provide material support to ISIS, with a backup plan to conduct mass shootings against Jewish communities inside the United States. An 18-year-old in Charlotte, North Carolina - Christian Sturdivant - was arrested on New Year’s Eve after a full year of ISIS-inspired planning that included a written attack manifest titled “New Years Attack 2026.” A Southern California man pleaded guilty to bankrolling ISIS operations and constructing a homemade bomb packed with metal fragments. These aren’t isolated cases. They are a pattern, and the pattern is accelerating.

So what do you do with this information? Start with your immediate environment. Know who is around you, what’s normal in your neighborhood and workplace, and what isn’t. ISIS and affiliated networks have demonstrated a preference for soft targets - grocery stores, restaurants, churches, crowded public spaces. These are places where you and your family are every single week.
Get trained in Stop the Bleed, trauma first aid, and situational awareness. Have a communication plan with your family that doesn’t rely on cell towers being operational. Keep go-bags staged and ready. Know where your local emergency services are, and more importantly, know that in a coordinated multi-city attack scenario - which intelligence analysts are actively modeling - those services will be overwhelmed quickly. Your first line of defense is you.
