Lakanwal, who entered the U.S. in September 2021 under the Biden administration’s Operation Allies Welcome - a hasty evacuation program for Afghans who aided American forces - was fast-tracked with minimal scrutiny.[4][5] Emails obtained by Sen. Josh Hawley reveal orders to “fill up planes” with refugees, even without proper vetting, shocking troops on the ground.[6] By April 2025, under the Trump administration, he secured asylum, but the damage was already seeded.

Lakanwal’s background reads like a thriller gone wrong. For a decade, he served in the Afghan National Army’s elite Quick Reaction Force in Kandahar, working alongside U.S. Special Forces.[7] His weathered ID card - emblazoned with “NSU 03 Kandahar QSF” and blood type A+ - testifies to that alliance, issued in conjunction with Afghan and U.S. forces at a joint base.[8] But deeper ties emerge: CIA Director John Ratcliffe confirmed Lakanwal “worked with U.S. partners, including the CIA, in Afghanistan.”[9] Rep. Lakanwal’s half-brother, Muawiyah Khurasani (aka Hayatullah), was a notorious ISIS-Khorasan Province recruiter, previously linked to Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.[11] Killed in a 2022 raid in Nangarhar province - claimed by Pakistan’s CTD but unverified - Khurasani’s legacy lingers. ISIS channels swiftly hailed the DC attack, citing Lakanwal’s bloodline as validation.[11] A relative, who served with him abroad, described Lakanwal as a family man with a wife and five sons, estranged in recent months, offering no motive.[12] Yet, whispers of sedition swirl: Was he one of the assets urged by Sen.
