Trump’s Tariff Announcement Triggers Global and Domestic Reactions
President Donald Trump’s recent tariff announcement has set off a wave of responses worldwide and within the U.S. Trump revealed that "EVERY" country has been contacting the White House following his decision to impose reciprocal tariffs.
International Reactions
Trump’s tariffs target trade barriers on U.S. goods: the EU slaps a 50% tariff on American dairy, Japan hits U.S. rice with a 700% tariff, India imposes a 100% tariff on American ag products, and Canada levies a 300% tariff on U.S. butter and cheese. Trump’s response? Reciprocal tariffs. He told foreign leaders to either drop their tariffs or build in America, per Breitbart.
China fired back, calling it “bullying.” Iran, meanwhile, seems to be backing off after Trump hit Houthi targets in Yemen, a move tied to oil prices dropping to their lowest since 2021, according to The Wall Street Journal.
U.S. Political Responses
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said on MSNBC’s “The Beat” that Trump’s tariffs are “like bringing COVID back.” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz claimed there’s “buyer’s remorse” and that “nobody signed up to insult the Canadians.” Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt countered, “American government exists to protect our people & our interests. Full stop.”

In Boston, a DA threatened an ICE officer with contempt, only to get shut down by the U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts, per RedState. In McKinney, Texas, Robert King was arrested for terroristic threats against ICE agents and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem after posting plans to “open fire” if agents showed up, according to HSI Dallas.
