Churches: Distorting the Gospel for Radical Agendas
Don't miss Jon Wheaton's SDN episode at 700pm ET this evening on this topic
American Christian churches have long been a bedrock of faith, family, and traditional values. But in recent years, a sinister force has crept into the pews: Cultural Marxism. This ideology, rooted in the Marxist goal of dismantling Western civilization, is infiltrating churches, twisting the Gospel, and pushing a radical agenda that undermines biblical truth. Left-wing groups like Black Lives Matter (BLM), the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), and others are at the forefront of this assault, using their influence to distort Christianity for their own evil aspirations.

Cultural Marxism isn’t about economics - it’s about culture. It seeks to erode traditional institutions like the church by replacing their values with secular, progressive ideals. In American churches, this shows up as a shift away from the Gospel’s focus on sin, repentance, and salvation through Christ, toward a watered-down message of “social justice,” identity politics, and political activism. The Bible’s clear teachings - man and woman created in God’s image, marriage as a sacred union, and the sanctity of life - are being swapped for a Marxist framework that divides people into oppressors and oppressed based on race, gender, or class.
Black Lives Matter
BLM has been a major player in this invasion. On the surface, they claim to fight for racial equality, but their 2020 platform openly supported anti-Christian ideas: promoting LGBTQ ideology, dismantling the nuclear family, and rejecting biblical gender roles. BLM leaders like Patrisse Cullors, who called herself a “trained Marxist,” have pushed churches to adopt their rhetoric. Many congregations, especially in liberal denominations, started hosting BLM events, preaching “racial reconciliation” sermons that ignored personal sin, and even displaying BLM banners - despite the group’s clear rejection of biblical values. This isn’t about unity; it’s about forcing a Marxist lens onto the Gospel, where salvation comes through activism, not Christ.
Southern Poverty Law Center
The SPLC is another culprit. Known for labeling traditional Christian groups as “hate organizations,” the SPLC pressures churches to conform to leftist dogma or face public shaming. They’ve targeted ministries like the Family Research Council for upholding biblical marriage, branding them as bigots. This intimidation has led some churches to back off preaching hard truths - like the sin of homosexuality or abortion - out of fear of being canceled. The SPLC’s influence creates a chilling effect, pushing pastors to dilute the Gospel to avoid being smeared as “extremists.” Their goal isn’t tolerance; it’s control, forcing the church to bow to a Marxist worldview that elevates man’s rules over God’s.
National Council of Churches
Other left-wing organizations, like the National Council of Churches (NCC), have also jumped on this bandwagon. The NCC, which claims to represent 38 million Christians, has a history of supporting progressive causes that clash with Scripture. They’ve endorsed movements like “reproductive justice” - a euphemism for abortion - and pushed for open borders, ignoring the Bible’s call for law and order. These groups use their platform to infiltrate seminaries and church leadership, training pastors to prioritize Marxist ideals like collectivism and class struggle over the Great Commission.
The distortion of the Gospel is clearest in how these groups redefine sin. The Bible calls all men to repent of personal sins - lying, lust, pride. But Cultural Marxism, through BLM and the SPLC, shifts the focus to “systemic sins” like “whiteness” or “patriarchy.” Sermons become lectures on privilege, not salvation. Pastors are told to “deconstruct” their faith, questioning the Bible’s authority if it doesn’t align with progressive values. This isn’t Christianity - it’s a Marxist hijacking, where the cross is replaced with a protest sign.
